Summary

In order to set up a Histogram Chart you will need:

  1. Create a report with chart display
    1. Select a field to use as the Series
    2. Select a field to use as the Colour (optional field)
    3. Enable the display of duplicate records
  2. Create your chart, selecting Analytical as the type, and Histogram as the chart
  3. Provide the Series and Colour options and Refresh
  4. Customise the Chart as required
  5. Close the Chart Builder
  6. Save your report

Tutorial

1. Click on the Create link and select Report to begin building your report.

2. You should now be on the Initialise Report page. Select the Drag and Drop Builder as the build tool.

3. Select Ski Team as the View.

5. On the Step 1. Report Data page set the Output Options to Chart Only by selecting it in the Report Options section on the right. This will ensure that the information appears as a chart.

6. As you want to see each individual camp rating in our Histogram you will need to enable the display of Duplicate Records.

7. To do this, expand the Report Data section and enable the Show Duplicate Records option.

8. On the Report Data page, drag and drop the Unable to render embedded object: File (rpt_dim.png) not found. Gender dimension, and Unable to render embedded object: File (rpt_metric.png) not found. Camp Rating metric into the Column Fields area.

10. You will need to remove the aggregations on both copies of the Unable to render embedded object: File (rpt_metric.png) not found. Camp Rating fields by selecting each one individually and clicking on the Unable to render embedded object: File (clear.png) not found. Clear button.

12. Next you will need to setup a filter to remove results with a Camp Rating of zero. This is because when athletes cancel their booking and don't attend a camp their Camp Rating defaults to 0.

13. Set the filter to Camp Rating Different from 0.

15. You should now see the Pie Chart image (pictured here). Click on the image to go to the Chart Format page where you can setup your chart.

16. Click on the Chart Menu, select Analytical as the Chart Type and click on the picture of the Histogram Chart to select it.

17. Click Save, this will load the options for a Histogram Chart.

18. In the Chart Data section you will need to select the data for each setting in the chart.

19. Set the Series to Camp Rating.

20. Click the Refresh link to generate your chart.

21. You should now have a chart that looks like the one pictured.

22. You may want to try setting the Colour to Gender in order to layer the histogram.

23. You should have a layered Histogram that looks like this.

24. You now need to Save and Activate your chart. Click on the Close button to go back to the Report Preview page.

25. Click on the Save Menu and use Histogram Chart Tutorial as the Name.

26. Type This Histogram Chart was created using the Charts Tutorial as the Description.

27. Enter Tutorial as the Category and Charts as the Sub Category.

28. Click Activate.
